The Essex High School Athletics Department has released its 2020 fall schedules and listed its coaching staff for the year.
ESSEX -- The outer grounds of the Essex High School (EHS) campus were buzzing this past week after the final bell as Hornet Athletics returned to action.
The organizers of a yearly outdoor event, and the parents of an active local girl, aren’t letting the coronavirus pandemic stop them from raising awareness and funding for charity. It’s just going to look a little different than it has in recent years.
Essex High School (EHS) Director of Athletics Patrick Merriam spent some time talking with the Reporter this week and gave some clarification to how fall sports will look this year.
VERMONT — A group of seven runners ran the length of Vermont, raising more than $38,000 for the Vermont Foodbank along the way.
While the popular summertime tradition wasn’t held in Essex this year, or in its traditional format, the fundraiser was still tremendously successful.
MONTPELIER — On Tuesday, Aug. 11, additional updates on the upcoming high school, fall sports season were released by the Vermont Principal’s Association (VPA).
BARRE -- Essex Junction driver Matthew Smith posted another top-10 finish last week at Thunder Road Speedbowl and might have had a shot at the win if it weren’t for a couple of crashes.
COLCHESTER -- The Northeast-10 Conference recently announced its Academic Honor Roll for the 2020 spring semester. Among the 255 student-athletes who represented Saint Michael’s College (SMC), one hails from Essex Junction.
STOWE -- A pair of golfers with ties to Essex made the cut last week during the 114th Vermont Amateur Championship held at Stowe Country Club -- one of them making a good run at his third title in the event.
MONTPELIER — The Vermont Principal’s Association released news that the high school fall sports season will have a delayed opening. Practices for fall teams scheduled to begin on August 10th will now begin the first student day of school at the end of August or beginning of September.
One of Vermont’s top high school nordic skiers isn’t going far next year -- at least for classes. He will, however, be travelling a little further on the weekends to compete for his school.
