Police arrested an Essex Jct. man last weekend after they say he damaged fields at Essex High School and the Essex Tree Farm by “blowing donuts” in his pick up truck.

James Labombard, 29, was cited for unlawful trespass, unlawful mischief, attempting to elude, grossly negligent operation and DUI-refusal. He’s scheduled to be arraigned in Chittenden Superior Court – Criminal Division on June 6.

Police say they received multiple complaints around 6:45 p.m. on Saturday of a white Dodge pick up truck driving recklessly near the high school. Witnesses said the truck was damaging grass on the EHS sport fields. The same truck then continued to the Tree Farm, where it caused further damage on and around the soccer fields, police said.

An Essex officer tried to stop the truck as it left the Tree Farm, but Labombard sped away toward a parking garage at the Autumn Pond apartment complex. There, the officer tried to speak to Labombard, but the man exited the truck with his dog and ignored police commands, the press release said.

Police eventually arrested Labombard once additional officers arrived. Police say he resisted arrest and was placed in restraints after a brief struggle. He was transported to the Essex Police Department for processing.

Police say the investigation is still ongoing.
