While new cases of COVID-19 started climbing throughout Vermont recently, the Town of Essex was slightly under its average in the latest town-by-town report from the Department of Health.

Essex had 21 new cases reported for the week of March 18-24 – that being under the average of 28 per week it had been logging since mid-November. The town accounted for 6.4% of Chittenden County’s 327 new cases registered for the same time period – that being well under the 11.4% of the county’s total cases Essex has accounted for since last March.

Chittenden’s 327 new cases reported for the week ending March 24 were the most for the county since the week ending Jan. 13 which had 363. The county also surpassed the one-third mark of its residents receiving a vaccination while the state surpassed the 100,000 mark of people completing the vaccination process.
