Feeding Chittenden is calling on community support in order to feed 10,000 food insecure families during its “Holidays Without Hunger” campaign from November 1 – December 31.

The agency is asking supporters to make a virtual donation this year by visiting www.feedingchittenden.org or simply text the word GIVE to 802-242-5953. A donation of $25 will help feed a family of four!

Feeding Chittenden is working to make sure that every family in our region has enough food this holiday season. Feeding Chittenden Director Rob Meehan says the agency saw an increase in people seeking assistance since the onset of COVID-19.

This increase in demand comes at a time when many economically challenged households are facing higher inflation rates, with housing, food, and heating costs continuing to rise.

According to Meehan, the “Holidays Without Hunger” campaign encourages community members to make a direct impact on hunger at a time when many Vermonters are making difficult choices this holiday season.

“We want to empower the community to support Feeding Chittenden’s efforts to fight hunger and make a difference right here in Vermont,” Meehan says.  “Every day we help seniors, working families with children, people with disabilities, people who are experiencing homelessness or are marginally housed, and New American and refugee families, as well as others who are facing food insecurity.  We want to ensure this holiday season is special for everyone in our community.”

Donations received through the “Holidays Without Hunger” campaign will be used to purchase holiday fixings such as turkeys, mashed potatoes, stuffing and potatoes. To learn more about how to volunteer or get involved contact www.feedingchittenden.org.
