Essex recorded its highest number of new COVID-19 cases in a seven-day period as recently reported by the Vermont Department of Health.

The town tallied 61 new cases between March 25-31 which was 11 more than the 50 documented for the week ending Jan. 20. That fed into a Chittenden County spike of 470 new cases during the week which was over 100 more than the 363 reported for the week ending Jan. 13 – the highest weekly total since the Reporter started tracking the data in mid-November.

Statewide, Vermont recorded its highest single-day number of new cases with 251 being reported for March 25 – that being followed by another 194 and 233 March 27 and 31, respectively.
