The Essex Police Department (EPD) reported Tuesday that it made an arrest Monday for a domestic assault incident which included threats to the victim and police.
EPD said it responded to an address on Saybrook Road at at 8:02 p.m. Thursday, March 18 for
a reported domestic assault. The suspect, identified as Graham Cassinell, 40, of Essex, had left the scene prior to law enforcement’s arrival.
According to police, the victim reported that an argument with Cassinell escalated to the point where he threatened the victim’s life with a handgun -- and also made threats to murder police officers if she called for help. It’s said that the victim was prevented from making any calls for help as she was physically restrained.
Investigators learned that this was just one in a pattern of similar incidents and that Cassinell was known to possess firearms.
Law enforcement then located Cassinell on Center Road in Essex around 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 22. He was taken into custody without incident and later arraigned on two counts of first degree aggravated domestic assault, interference with emergency services, and disturbing the peace by telephone or other electronic communications.
Cassinell was ordered to be held without bail and lodged at Northwest Correctional Facility.
