The Essex Police Department is looking for assistance identifying a dog’s owner after a bite incident last week.
A mother and her 8-year-old daughter were running Sept. 2 in Indian Brook Park when they saw two dogs off-leash with no owners in sight, according to a press release from Lt. Robert Kissinger.
Mother and daughter slowed to a walk because they did not want to run by unfamiliar dogs. One dog was described as possibly a golden doodle, and the other appeared to be a hound mix, approximately 70-75 pounds, with a short coat and black and tan coloring.
The mother told police two women approached, presumably the dogs’ owners, so they took off running again. At that point, the black and tan dog turned around and ran at her 8-year-old daughter, biting her in the back/inside of her right thigh.
The mother provided her phone number to the owner of the dogs, but has not yet received a call with the dog’s vaccination history.
Essex Animal Control is seeking to locate the owners to obtain the vaccination status of the dogs. If anyone has information regarding these dogs, Essex Police can be contacted at 802-878-8331.
