This spring, I made a commitment to myself to get healthy. Since March, I have been religiously going to the gym Monday – Friday.
But that’s not all.
I’ve tried new things, including PX90, ZUMBA and yoga. I’ve made new friends that are on the same schedule at the gym as I am, and they help keep me accountable.
And I’ve also learned that just going to the gym doesn’t make you a healthier person.
There needs to be a balance between eating and activity to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I recently found that I easily get bored with my workouts, which in turn makes them less effective because I stop pushing myself.
I’m proud to say that since March, I have lost 30 pounds — and now that I fully understand how to lead a healthier lifestyle, I feel better then ever!
But I’ve always been someone who loves a good challenge, so last week I decided it was time to step it up. In keeping with my commitment to myself, I made a resolution to run a 5k on January 1, 2014 — the First Run of the Year!
I downloaded a “Run Keeper” app to help me get there, which allows me to blast my workout jams and track my 28-week program.
With my newfound motivation and workout tools, I successfully completed a 1.5-mile run last week! I still can’t believe I was able to push myself there. The last time I ran was probably 10 years ago in high school and that was to clock a mile for gym class. I’m excited to see how the next 27 weeks will go.
And the best part? I know it will only get easier!
