Colchester resident, Edge employee arrested for embezzlement

The Essex Police Department arrested 30-year-old Chantal Sturgeon, of Colchester, on charges of embezzlement on Thursday.

According to authorities, an investigation by Essex Police revealed that Sturgeon had embezzled more than $20,000 dollars while she was an employee with the Sports and Fitness Edge in Essex.

Sturgeon was issued a citation to appear in the Vermont Superior Court to answer to the charges on Thursday, March 28.

Unlawful mischief and assault of an officer

The Essex Police located a male subject breaking windows out of vehicles that were parked at the Police Station on Monday. Nineteen-year-old Kristopher Puls, of Essex, was arrested at 81 Main Street. Of the four vehicles that sustained damage, two were police cruisers and two were privately owned. The estimated damage exceeds $2,5000. Puls was lodged at the Chittenden Correctional Facility for the charge of felony unlawful mischief and, after he spit on an officer, assault on a law enforcement officer by bodily fluids.

Pearl Street collision

The Essex Police Department received multiple calls regarding a head-on collision on Pearl Street on Monday night. The Essex Police Department, Essex Rescue, Williston Rescue, UVM Rescue, St. Mikes Rescue and Essex Junction Fire Department responded to a two car accident on Pearl St near the intersection of West Street. A vehicle heading eastbound crossed the median, collided with a tree and struck another vehicle heading westbound.

Four persons were injured in the collision. The driver of the westbound vehicle, 53-year-old Marija Tanasic, of Colchester, and her husband, 63-year-old Jovan Tanasic, of Colchester, as well as the driver of the eastbound vehicle, 32-year-old Jacob Barewicz, of Burlington, and his passenger 31-year-old Dale Earley, of Burlington, were transported to Fletcher Allen for non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of this accident is still under investigation. Any persons with information are urged to call the Essex Police.
