The Immortalists

By Chloe Benjamin

Adult Fiction, 2018

What if you knew the date of your death?

This novel addresses this theme with the four Gold children – Varya, Daniel, Klara and Simon – in the late 1960s living in Manhattan. During one summer vacation, they all decide to visit a fortune teller famous for predicting when people will die. We follow each sibling over time as they come to terms with their predicted date of death. Each part centers on one sibling acting as a period piece from the 1980s to 2000s. Did the fortune teller know the truth, or did the children convinced of their date, set their own course to that particular date?
