The holidays are my favorite time of year. Each year I bake up dozens of cookies to give to family and friends as gifts. I’ve been baking up a storm for the last 4 years. And I am proud to say this year was the best yet. I executed my plan flawlessly.
Right before Thanksgiving, I looked at the calendar, balanced all my holiday activities (parties, family gatherings, shopping) and picked a full day to set aside for baking. This year, I chose December 8 – last Sunday.
Two weeks prior, I had put together a list of all the cookies I wanted to bake and started checking out new recipes. This year, I decided to keep it simple and only add 2 new kinds: Brown Sugar Cookies and Pretzel Turtles (which is technically candy).
Once I gathered all my recipes, I put together a list of how many of each I will be making. Here’s what it looked like this year:
- Gooey Chocolate Butter Cookies 4 doz
- Thumbprints 4 doz
- Russian Teacakes 5 doz
- Brown Sugar Cookies 6 doz
- Peanut Butter Blossoms 4 doz
- Sugar cake Cookies 4 doz
- Pretzel Turtles 6 doz
- Peanut Butter Balls 4 doz
- Muddy Buddies
- Chocolate Dipper Pretzels
As we all know, even if the recipe says it makes 4-dozen, it doesn’t always mean you’re actually going to get 4-dozen – probably less. But this year, once I took inventory of all of my ingredients and started whipping up my goodies, I was very careful in my ball rolling process. The result? I ended up getting close to all of my goals and in some cases – more than enough!
With the lovely help of my boyfriend Smitty, we were able to get all the baking done by 6 p.m. Record Baking time. It was a great day filled with lots of sugar and flour!
