After six months of preparing and fundraising, Relay for Life is finally here! I am so excited! I have a strong team of 5 in honor of my Mum, Go-Go for Momo. This is my third year participating in the event and my team is good to go. We put together an amazing basket to be raffled off that includes over $400 in outdoor gear, have dozens of baked goods to sell for donations — and not to mention, our walking shoes are ready. We are pumped to join over 1,000 participants on the track.
In January, I set a goal of fundraising $1,000 for American Cancer Society. When I checked in on my efforts this past Sunday, I found that I had only raised $333. That wasn’t going to cut it. It was time to kick it up — so I put all my efforts on full blast. My friends and family already knew I was participating, but I hadn’t yet asked for any donations. So, I emailed over 200 people, shared info on Facebook and tweeted my goal. By Tuesday night I had raised 50%! I continued my efforts as I gathered all my things for Relay: chairs, table, canopy, sunscreen, bug spray, glow sticks and much more. By Wednesday at 8 p.m. I reached my goal of $1,000 — that’s double of last year’s funds.
As I join others and line the track tonight, I am lucky to have such great support and proud to be able to help create a world with more birthdays.
See you there!
