Fire consumes South St. Structure

On February 27, the Colchester Center Volunteer Fire Company responded to a structure fire at 63 South Street in the Town of Colchester. The residence is a mobile home located in the Hillcrest Trailer Park, and was completely destroyed. Residences on either side of the home were also damaged by heat and fire, and two vehicles were consumed during the blaze. The two occupants who were asleep at the time of the blaze, were awakened by the smell of smoke and escaped without injury. According to Colchester Police, investigation revealed that the cause of this fire was an electric fire place heater unit in the living room of the residence. Colchester Center Fire Company was assisted by the Malletts Bay and St. Michael’s College Fire Departments and Colchester Rescue Squad.
